Rufa Mae Quinto has had her share of good and bad publicity this year.
Her latest film outing, "Manay Po 2: Overload" under Regal Entertainment reportedly opened with a P5-million gross at the box-office. There is also her much publicized romance with a foreigner. But Rufa Mae recently announced that has chosen to put an end to the relationship.
The comedienne is the talk of the town again after she reportedly signed an exclusive contract with GMA Network worth a whooping P30 million for two years.
"P30 million ba? Ang alam ko more. Pero what can I do, di ba," Rufa Mae chuckled during her press conference at the Viva Office last Tuesday to announce that she is back to Viva Artist Agency. It was VAA headed by Veronique del Rosario that represented her in her contract signing with GMA Network. "Pero kung ano man ang amount kailangang pagtrabahuan ko muna yun."
Aside from "Bubble Gang," "SOP" and "Showbiz Central" Rufa Mae will start taping on May 1 for the network’s biggest action-fantasy-series "Dyesebel."
Her fat paycheck according to the grapevine also sparked jealousy from other artists from the network "Huwag naman please na magselos. Pabayaan naman nila akong lumigaya. Ngayon lang ako liligaya talaga."
On being managed by VAA, Rufa Mae said she started with Viva Films when she was barely 17-years old and has appeared in different shows of Viva TV. "Sa kanila na ako nag-debut. Doon pa rin ako and forever na!"
Asked about Boy Abunda who spearheads Backroom, Inc. her management team, Rufa Mae explained: "Si Tito Boy, manager ko, agent, friend ko, ‘ama’ and everything," she said proudly. "Ngayon nasa Viva Films, Viva TV and Viva Records na ako. In fairness meron na akong album. Sa VAA ako nag-start, bata pa ako nag-start kaya pirma lang ng pirma kahit hindi ko naintindihan. Pero ang importante sa lahat magkasama kaming lahat sa VAA."
Her latest project with Viva is her debut album "Four Sides of Rufa Mae" which she co-produced with Vincent del Rosario. It contains four remakes: "All This Time" originally by Tiffany, "Dadalhin" by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, Lani Misaluchia’s "Tila" and "Ocean Deep" which she also sang in her soon to be released movie from GMA Films and Regal Entertainment entitled "I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust And Love You)."
Her album is also a collaboration with different artists who are also her voice coaches like Erik Santos for "Tila," Tats Fautisno for "Dadalhin" and Duncan Ramos for "Ocean Deep." Her album also contains music videos of her songs and minus one.
Her next movie project is "Civil Status: Singles," a co-production of Viva Films and her own production outfit On-Q 28 Productions. She will be joined by Will Devaughn and Jon Avila, her leading men. Shooting starts after director Joey Reyes finishes "Monster Mom" and after her film "I.T.A.L.Y." "I’m excited about this movie kasi maraming makaka-relate dito. It’s about a girl na among her three friends siya na lang ang walang asawa. Because she’s been looking for Mr. Right," she said.
Rufa Mae admitted that she herself is searching for the elusive Mr. Right. "There’s no perfect guy. And when you fall in love with someone, pati mga flaws niya dapat mahalin mo rin."
By the way, on her 30th birthday on May 28, the actress plans to give away electric fans and goodies to a charity organization in Pasay City. It was Diego, her co-actor in "Bubble Gang" who told her about the organization. The cast of "Bubble Gang" will support her cause, she revealed.
