Another botched deal with Gabby?
spacer

Shirley Matias-Pizarro

Looks like comebacking actor Gabby Concepcion has been finding himself in a fix a lot lately.

Even when the brouhaha about the "confusion" regarding his contract with GMA Films is yet to be completely ironed out, here comes another controversy involving a beauty product he was supposed to endorse and his camp’s alleged "backing out of the verbal agreement" at the last minute.

The story was that Gabby and his manager Rose Flaminiano gave their nod of agreement to an offer of P2.5 million for Gabby to endorse a beauty product (Metathione) which their close friend Jobert Sucaldito brokered for them as he was also good friends with the owner of the company.

Jobert said Rose Flaminiano said no to Metathione’s initial offer of P1 million and actually asked for P3 million. But they closed the deal after negotiations at P2.5 million, P1.5 of which will be paid upon signing of the contract and the balance of P1 million to be paid on the day of the commercial shoot.

But the deal was overturned after another beauty product clinched the deal with Gabby’s camp at P5 million. And this is where Jobert started to nurse his broken heart. "We were just waiting for the schedule of the contract-signing with them. Everything was set and I didn’t even have an inkling of what was to come," Jobert told us over the phone. "I found out only after I accidentally saw the contract that they signed with the other company, on the day that Mommy Rose asked to meet with me supposedly to tell me that they have a better offer."

"They signed the contract even before they told me that they got that offer of P5 million," he said. Jobert felt that the fact that he was talking to Gabby on the phone that same morning somehow added insult to his injury. "He didn’t even bother telling me about that contract. The thing is, we were talking because I was smelling something fishy already after accidentally receiving a text message from Mommy Rose." Jobert said what he got was a baffling message because it was supposed to have come from him, sent to Flaminiano, saying that he has a big problem about the deal or something to that effect. But Jobert swears, "there was really nothing going on at all. That is why Gabby and I were talking that morning. When I asked Mommy Rose about the text message, she brushed it aside saying she was actually talking about a different Jobert who happens to be hosting a radio show also, but in the province. To my mind, it was really suspicious."

Gabby’s manager explained their side of the story and she reiterated that the decision to pick the higher-paying deal was "for the best interest" of Gabby. And that while she apologized for not being able to tell Jobert sooner, the decision was made not to benefit anyone but her ward. And as far as the text message is concerned, she says she has not erased it and she can show it to anyone who would inquire.

EB Babes to join Dolphy-Vic movie

The group of hot, young figures known as EB Babes is excited to participate in the most anticipated comedy flick to date. They were recently casted in the upcoming movie "Dobol Trobol" starring Comedy King Dolphy and box-office star Vic Sotto.

"Di pa po kami nagsisimula ng taping pero excited na kami to work with Bosing and Tito Dolphy," said Lian Paz, the acknowledged spokesperson of the group formed off the Eat Bulaga contest. The other EB Babes are Joyce Burgos, Ann Boleche, Mae dela Cerna, Mergene Maranan, Madel Palma, Belle Rivera, Angel Coronel, and Saida Diola.

We spoke with the nine members of this girl-group recently after they performed at the car drifting event held at the Greenhills Promenade ground parking lot. "Most of us are into driving at mahilig kami sa kotse," added the dance chic who along with this fellow Eb Babes, entertained spectators and car enthusiasts at PLDT’s myDSL’s Speed Circuit Car Drifting show last April 5.

The event closed the Promenade parking for the first time while it also featured dance-music singer Nancy Castiglione who told the press she wants to try car drifting by herself anytime soon. "I’m practicing and I know I will be good at it," she said jesting with the cute and lovely DJ jocks from Wave 89.1 FM.

PLDT myDSL launched the Plan 990 and Quick Install Kit where the former gives subscribers unlimited broadband access and a PLDT landline while the latter is a take-home, do-it-yourself kit allowing one from getting myDSL activation in three days.

The EB Babes danced their way at the venue and served as extra hot attraction to the drifting exhibition by champion drivers Alex Perez, Ron Bayona and Charlie Cruz. The 2nd of the two-day spectacle, featuring the Lateral Drift Competition, saw an equally exciting contest pitting more than 30 participants.

"Dyesebel" launched with much funfare

The launch of GMA-7’s latest fantasy series "Dyesebel" at the poolside of Hotel Sofitel early this week outshines every other launches the network has put together by far.

Though it started a bit late (at past 9 p.m.), the short program captivated the waiting audience and was quite successful in delivering the message that they want to accomplish in that launch.

To set the mood right, there were mermaids and mermen swimming around the pool and we could actually talk to them. The guys belong to a swimming team while the girls have been trained equally for "Dyesebel."

An elevated portion in the middle of the pool was lighted dramatically and later revealed the cast belonging to the underwater world, completely in character, with their colorful costumes led by Marian Rivera as Dyesebel, Alfred Vargas as Erebus, Lotlot de Leon as Banak, Michelle Madrigal as Berbola, Paolo Ballesteros as Bukanding, Marco Alcaraz as Usaro, Teri Onor as Akirang, Charlotte Hermoso as Jelay and Filiberto Nepomuceno as Butete. On the shore were the cast members living on the land led by Dingdong Dantes as Fredo, Ricky Davao as Don Juan, Jean Garcia as Lucia, Luis Alandy as Gildo, Bianca King as Betty, Aljur Abrenica as Paolo, Kris Bernal as Shiela Mae, and Hero Angeles as Mark.

Julie Ann San Jose of Sugar Pop added flair and drama to the night when she beautifully sang the Danny Tan composition "Aking Mundo" which was the series’ theme song, as she walks from the foot bridge to the poolside. The story and the characters were then presented onscreen, the pinnacle of which was the touchingly beautiful love story between Fredo and Dyesebel.

After that, the cast was called on stage one by one (surprisingly with the underwater cast already dressed up like humans!) and by this time, the excitement is already being shared by the crowd that gathered around them that night.

"Dyesebel" starts airing on Monday, April 28 on GMA 7. Let’s all watch and see if it indeed, will live up to the expectations.

Aga’s "That’s My Doc" now on Saturday

Great things truly come to those who wait.

If there is anyone who is happiest about the turn of events, it probably is Aga Muhlach, lead star and actor of ABS-CBN’s hit comedy series "That’s My Doc." Formerly airing late Sunday nights, Aga actually realizes his wish as his sitcom now occupies a new time slot, every Saturday at 6 p.m. on ABS-CBN starting tonight (April 26).

The production and creative team behind the sitcom stress that "That’s My Doc" originally targets a niche for family entertainment and they are just happy to go back right on track with that target market now that their time slot can be accessed by the young people.

The cast is still headlined by ace comedians Nova Villa, Roderick Paulate, Bayani Agbayani, Pokwang and Aga’s leading lady Precious Lara Quigaman. The youngsters (formerly only with Celine Lim) had been beefed up a little bit with the inclusion of Jairus Aquino, Sophia Baars and Bronson.

They tell us that we should watch out for more exciting stories happening in Barangay Tabuneknek as Doc Aga opens a center for kids. Don’t forget, "That’s My Doc" now airs every Saturday, 6 p.m. on ABS-CBN.
