The Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), which will be formally opened by the end of the month, is the main route of the "Global Gateway Caravan" set today to highlight the various tourist destinations in Subic, Clark, and Tarlac, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said.

SCTEX Project Manager Robert Gervacio said the caravan will start in Tarlac City and travel to Subic and Clark.

The event will also raise awareness of the investment and other economic opportunities in the region especially with the scheduled opening of the SCTEX on April 28, Gervacio said.

"We are very proud to take an active part in this undertaking because this is a good chance for those joining the caravan to experience the comfort and see for themselves the world-class design of the 93.7-kilometer stretch of the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway," Gervacio said.

Ma. Lorelei Fajardo, presidential assistant for Central Luzon, said the groups that helped organize the Global Gateways Caravan include BCDA, Manila North Tollways Corp., Region 3 office of the Department of Tourism, North Philippines Visitors’ Bureau, and tourism offices of Subic, Clark, and Tarlac.

"This tourism caravan aims to highlight the various tourist destinations in Subic, Clark, and Tarlac, and promote the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway as a gateway to and from Central Luzon," said Ms Fajardo, who is also the deputy presidential spokesperson.

The caravan, composed of at least 200 vehicles of participating tourists, stakeholders and media representatives, will assemble at the Luisita Mall complex in Tarlac City where participants will be briefed on the convoy rules and tips, vehicle stickers, giveaways, and other promotional materials.

The caravan will leave Luisita at 9 a.m. and proceed to the Balingkanauay Toll Plaza, the northernmost entry and exit point of the SCTEX. The caravan will then traverse the brand-new toll road towards Clark where more participants will join the convoy at the Clark Logistics Interchange in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

The Global Gateways Caravan is expected to arrive before lunch at the Subic Bay Boardwalk via the Subic-Tipo Toll Road, which connects directly to the SCTEX. The participants will be welcomed by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Administrator Armand Arreza and other officials.

After lunch, the caravan will move to the Clark Freeport where the participants will tour the sprawling complex. They will later proceed to the Nayong Pilipino where they will be welcomed by executives of the Clark Development Corp. and treated to an excerpt of the Kapampangan Holy Week Musical at the church plaza.
