ZAMBOANGA CITY — Congresswoman Maria Isabelle Climaco (First District, Zamboanga City) has allocated R20 million from her congressional funds for the improvement of the Cawa-Cawa Blvd. (Roseller T. Lim Blvd.), one of the city’s beautiful thoroughfares.
The project would extend the Cawa-Cawa Boulevard Path Walk by seven meters in width and 500 meters in length from the area in front of the Evangelical School to the area in front of the City Council (Sangguniang) building.
Climaco said the implementation of the project would be jointly undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office, the District Engineer’s Office, and the City Engineer’s Office.
She said the panoramic Cawa-Cawa Boulevard, one of the tourism treasures of the city, is a tourist areas that represents Zamboanga in postcards, brochures and other promotional materials being distributed not only locally but even abroad.
Climaco said the project would include the establishment of a seawall to protect the facility from strong waves and other water movements like the recent water surge last November.
The R20-million allocation forms part of the over R80 million congressional funds of Congresswoman Climaco for projects in her district.
She stressed that as the city’s prime tourist site, Cawa-Cawa Boulevard should be developed and improved to lure more visitors including tourists – both local and foreigners -- to visit Zamboanga – Asia’s Latin City.
