BUTUAN CITY – Policemen in Surigao del Norte seized a traveling bag containing rifle grenades believed owned by fleeing New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in Barangay Tinogpahan, Sison town, sketchy reports reaching the regional command and tactical operation center of Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) at Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez here stated.
The grenades were seized during a small-scale, combat operation jointly conducted by elements of the Sison police station and provincial police mobile force in Tinogpahan, the report stated.
The report received by Chief Supt. Jaime Milla, director of Police Region 13 Office, also stated that elements of Surigao del Norte police, regional police mobile force and combat battalion of 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade jointly conducted pursuit operation for the fleeing communist insurgents.
The seized bag containing rifle grenades was believed left behind when the troops arrived in the area, said Surigao del Norte police director Senior Supt. Antonio B. Paguirigan.
The bag was found at 3 in the morning on the side of the barangay road, police said.
