All six Filipinos competing in the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai will be coming home for the weekend after missing the cut in the $ 2.3 million tournament yesterday.
Angelo Que and Juvic Pagunsan submitted the lowest cards among the group but both failed to make the grade in the tough tournament co-sanctioned by the Asian and European tours.
Que, who had a first round 73, scored a 75 for a 148 total, the same aggregate posted by Antonio Lascuna who shot a 76. The cut was pegged at three-over-par 147.
Pagunsan was at 149 (74-75) and Gerald Rosales at 150 (72-78).
The two other Filipinos who did not make the weekend play were Frankie Miñoza (75-78 — 153) and Artemio Murakami (76-80 — 156).
Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen carded a 69 to claim a share of the lead with China’s Zhang Lian-wei at 139. Zhang also scored a 69.
Derksen was solid in blustery conditions, making five birdies for a five-under total of 139 and the slenderest of margins over Northern Irishman Darren Clarke and Henrik Stenson of Sweden.
Overnight leader Peter O’Malley of Australia was unable to repeat his sparkling first round in Shanghai, slipping to a 74 to reach the clubhouse two strokes behind the leader.
Twice US Open champion Retief Goosen is one shot further adrift, along with Asian tour of merit leader Mark Brown of New Zealand.
