After giving the opportunity to talented groups to shine in the biggest college band competition in the country, Nescafe gives aspiring young artists the chance to hone their musical skills with some of the most respected names in the industry as mentors.
Dubbed the "Nescafe Soundskool Summer Camp", the program is aimed at being the training ground for "music greatness."
"The summer camp will be the home base of the future big names in the music industry," says Yayin Bangcoro, marketing and promotions officer.
"It aims to mold them into becoming well-rounded performers who not only know how to perform, but more importantly, serve as good role models for the youth as well," she adds.
The summer camp is slated on April 29 to 30, at the Ateneo de Manila University and from May 8 to 9 at the University of Cebu in the Visayas. Registration starts at 8 a.m.
Participants will be given a Summer Camp Class Card, which will serve as their pass to each of the training sessions.
Learning the ropes from the experts
Under the Nescafe Soundskool Summer Camp, participants or "campers" will go through rigorous training programs wherein they will learn everything they need to know about the performing and the music industry as a whole.
For their first session, the "Industry Sound Check", they will be given a general overview of the music industry. Trainers for this session include Sony BMG artist & repertoire manager Vic Valenciano and Magic 89.9 program manager and 10-year radio insider Max Speed.
For the voice coaching course, resource persons are Dr. Raul Navarro, chairman of Conducting and Chorale Ensemble of the University of the Philippines College of Music and Joel Alinsunurin, classical singer and vocal coach.
Campers will undergo a fashion and personality enhancement program under fashion columnist and stylist Ana Kalaw and former Cosmopolitan fashion editor Donna Cuna-Pita.
A training on stage projection and presence, meanwhile, will be conducted by the Summa-Hanna Arts, a group that has successfully conducted arts and language workshops for three decades.
For their final session, the campers will have the chance to personally meet two of the most prominent performers in the music industry today — Sandwich frontman and former Eraserhead Raymund Marasigan and Southborder’s Jay Durias.
