Kim Hak Hyun and Lee Tae Ju of the Daegu City team sizzled with 1420 and 1401 series, respectively, to lead the foreigners’ assault in the 6th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl at Robinson Mall, Manila.
Kim started fast, rolling 15 strikes in his first 17 frames while team captain Lee finished strong with a 720 three-game series. United Arab Emirates’ Fuaad Almas notched a 1347 series on one good leg to finish third.
The top three finishers automatically qualified in Monday’s quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Fil-Am Raymond Ledesma continued to lead the rest of the Euro-Med Storm qualifiers.
Ledesma’s 1370 lead National Youth Team member Jayson Tubid’s 1360. Denmark’s AnneLorraine Gales had a 1353 to take the third spot while Thailand’s Annop Arromasaranon (1347), bowling Icon Paeng Nepomuceno (1337) and National team member Paulo Valdez (1325) occupied the next three places.
In the Bevida Storm Challenge, Benson Co of MTBA had a 1374 series to grab a 14-pin lead over Tubid.
Dyan Coronacion’s 1338 gave her third spot followed by MTBA’s Marlon Sia (1333), Denmark’s Anne Lorraine Gales (1317) and PBAP’s Yap Seok Kim (1317).
Bowlers from Korea and Taiwan arrived yesterday along with Steve Kloempken, Storm’s Technical Director who will also participate while enlightening the bowling community with the new technology from Storm.
Kloempken, once a member of Team USA, will also be available to conduct one-on-one digital coaching throughout the tournament.
The event, presented by Euro-Med laboratories and Storm Products and sponsored by the Philippine Airlines, official airline partner; Manila Bulletin, official media partner; and Manila Hotel, the official hotel; and supported by Bevida Distilled Drinking Water, AZO, Roto Grip, Legacy Ventures, Wave products, All in Technologies, Bowlmart Training Institute, and Lotus Garden Hotel, continues with the eliminations today.
