Asus Technology Philippines Inc. expects sales of its lightweight Eee PC netbooks to hit 70,000 units to account for 25 percent of its total brand sales in the country this year.
Leon Yu, country manager of Asus Technology Philippines Inc., told reporters at the launch of its second model Eee PC 900 that they are setting a trend in lightweight notebooks.
"The Eee PC has set a trend for an entry level laptop at very affordable price," he said. The first Eee PC 700 is being sold at P19,800 per piece.
Eee PC 900 with a retail price of P24,990 a unit is an enhanced version of its first model the Eee PC, which was successfully introduced in the market late last year.
The Taiwanese-based Asus is targetting worldwide sales of 5,000 units this year.
In 2007, its notebook sales excluding Eee PC sales already accounts for 50 percent of the company’s total brands turnover. The Philippines is the region’s biggest market for the Eee PC 700.
Asus Computer Inc. total brands registered total revenues of .9 billion in 2007 and is targetting billion this year.The group is now subdivided into 3 corporations namely: Pegatron, Unihan and Asus, Pegatron is handling IT related original equipment manufacturers such as NB or MB; Unihan is handling non-IT related OEM such as gaming consoles; Asus will focus on its own brand marketing.
