The Entertainment Press Society or ENPRESS, Inc. announces the nominees to this year’s 5th Golden Screen Awards slated in June.

Seven movies are vying for Best Motion Picture (Drama) while only two movies made as finalists in the Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category.

Vying for Best Motion Picture (Drama) category are "Endo" (UFO Pictures Productions); "Foster Child" (Seiko Films); "Haw-Ang"(Sizzling Gambas Productions, Inc.); "Kadin" (Bicycle Pictures); "Pisay" (Solito Arts Productions); "Still Life"(Sining Ko Ito Productions); and "Tirador" (Centerstage Productions).

Battling it out for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) are "Katas ng Saudi" from Maverick Films) and "Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo" produced by Star Cinema.

Seven seems to be the lucky number for this year’s Golden Screen Awards as seven actresses are vying for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Drama). They are Cherry Pie Picache (Foster Child), Glaiza de Castro (Still Life), Ina Feleo (Endo), Jaclyn Jose (Ataul for Rent), Jodie Santamaria-Lacson (Maling Akala), Kalila Aguiluz (Haw-Ang), and Maricel Soriano (A Love Story).

Cherry Pie and Maricel were previous winners at the Golden Screen Awards. Cherry Pie won Best Actress (Comedy) for "Bridal Shower" and was Best Supporting Actress winner for "Midnight Dancers" in 2006. Maricel was winner for Best Actress (Drama) in 2006 for "Inang Yaya" (in a tie with Gina Pareno, who won for "Kubrador").

Jaclyn was consistent nominee, having garnered a finalists’ certificate for "Sarong Banggi" while Glaiza, Ian, Jodie and Kalila are first-time nominees.

Vying for best performance by an actor (musical or comedy) are Jinggoy Estrada (Katas ng Saudi), Ryan Agoncillo

For best performance by an actor in drama, the finalists are Coco Martin (Tambolista), Jason Abalos (Endo), John Lloyd Cruz (One More Chance).Robin Padilla (Blackout), Romnick Sarmenta (Prinsesa), and Sid Lucero (Selda).

Robin was previously honored with Best Performance by An Actor in Musical or Comedy for "La Visa Loca" while Sid Lucero was the Breakthrough Performance by An Actor awardee in 2006 for "Donsol."

Judy Ann Santos (Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo), Lorna Tolentino (Katas ng Saudi) and Toni Gonzaga (You Got Me) are vying for the Best Performance By An Actress award (Musical or Comedy).

Juday has won three trophies from GSA namely best supporting actress for "Mano Po 2" in 2003, best actress (drama) for "Sabel" and best actress (musical or comedy) in 2006 for "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo."

Vying for best performance by an actor (musical or comedy) are Jinggoy Estrada (Katas ng Saudi), Ryan Agoncillo (Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo) and Wendell Ramos (Happy Hearts).

Best director contenders are Adolfo Alix, Jr. (Kadin), Auraeus Solito (Pisay), Brillante Mendoza (Tirador), Bong Ramos (Haw-Ang), Jade Francis Castro (Endo) and Jose Javier Reyes (Katas ng Saudi). All of them have yet to win a best director plum from the Golden Screen Awards.

The Entertainment Press Society is holding a Nominees’ Night on May 20 at the The Library bar in Malate to fete the finalists where they will be given their certificates of recognition. Said affair will also serve as a fund-raising event for the ENPRESS.
