Annabelle will sweep awards for 'Monster Mom' — Joey Reyes

Walden Sadiri

As the director and scriptwriter of "Monster Mom" from Regal Entertainment and GMA Films, Joey Reyes has a clear vision of where his film is going.

But with Annabelle Rama as the star of "Monster Mom," the director is having fun working with the mother cum talent manager.

"We are having too much fun because the role was specifically written for her. Kapag tinanggihan ni Annabelle Rama ito wala ng saysay ang script na yun. She surprises me and during our take hindi ako maka-sigaw kasi tawa ako ng tawa," the filmmaker related.

Reyes claimed he has been watching Annabelle on television since Ruffa Gutierrez was a teenager.

"Lagi namin siyang guest sa show ni Sharon Cuneta noon. You get to understand Annabelle Rama. So I have a really good insight of who she is," he said.

Reyes predicts that Annabelle will win awards for this movie. If you watch our teaser, mababaliw ka sa kakatawa talaga. She’s really full of surprises. Take one lang siya and ayaw pa niyang mag-rehearse," smiled Joey. "Tawa ako ng tawa. I really couldn’t tell which is funnier, the Ruffa and Annabelle banter in real life and then watching them do it on screen.

Annabelle, for her part, only has good words for her director. "Sabi ko nga malaking matitipid ng mga producer kay Direk Joey. Mahusay siya and mabilis magtrabaho. Ang pinaka-late yata naming magtrabaho ay 10:30 p.m."

In the movie, Richard Gutierrez will be playing the young Eddie Gutierrez.

"Maganda and nakaka-aliw ang pelikula. Mahusay si direk Joey Reyes. This is just a guest role pero nag-enjoy na ako kaagad...nasa peak ang career ni Mommy ngayon. Mas in demand pa siya sa amin lahat dahil daw sa Circulan 41 niya. I’m happy for her...she’s a natural actress," Richard said.

But is Annabelle really a "Monster Mom?"

"Tanong ninyo si Ate Ruffa," laughed Richard. "Nakakatutuwa and natutuwa naman ako sa kanya more than natatakot. When we were growing-up, takot ako Mommy ko pero mas natatakot ako sa daddy ko. Kasi ang Mommy ko laging galit. Ang daddy ko bihirang magalit so kapag nagalit siya takot na kaming lahat."

He continued, "Facade lang niya yun pero malambot talaga ang puso niya. She only has a strong personality but she’s a different person inside."

Regarding Rhian Ramos who plays the young Annabelle, Reyes said that she was another revelation in the movie. "After the first day of shooting, I called-up Joey Abacan and Mother Lily and told them that she is a gem of an actress. I also told Annette Gozon that she is one of the best actresses of GMA ."

Rhian herself admitted that she prepared for her role in the movie. She researched her role by watching snippets of videos on Annabelle on You Tube. She studied the way she talks and her actions. She even learned to speak Cebuano.

"Hindi ko na tinanong kasi baka ang kapal ko...siyempre masaya kasi kahit dati pa I looked up to her before pa nang love team pa kami ni Richard. Some people have even told me to keep my distance because she is strict. But she has such a kind heart and I want to show that when I play the role."

Also in "Monster Mom" are Annabelle’s husband Eddie Gutierrez, J.C. de Vera, Michelle Madrigal, Mart Escudero, Chariz Solomon and Bubbles Paraiso.
