Canon sponsors restoration of birdcages in Manila Zoo aviary

Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc. recently announced its sponsorship of the restoration and maintenance of birdcages in the Manila Zoo aviary in line with plans to rehabilitate the zoo. Canon is the first private organization to sponsor a facility in the Manila Zoo.

In his speech, Canon president and chief executive Ramon G. Arteficio stressed that Canon is taking a more active role in preserving the sanctuary. This move aims to help educate the Filipino community about the importance of wildlife and the environment.

"The Manila Zoo is a place of fond memories, especially for children, who enjoy being able to observe the animals up close. Hopefully, our support in rehabilitating and maintaining some of the aviaries in Manila Zoo will help ensure that there are more picture-perfect family moments that they can share together," said Arteficio.

Coinciding with the turnover event was Pinoy Photography Org’s (PiPho) Zoofest ’08, a photo contest among PiPho members with the theme "Canon ImageNation Summer," capturing shots of Filipinos enjoying summer at the zoo. PiPho and Canon are united in promoting the zoo as a great place for Filipinos to learn about animals, nature, and the environment, as well as become a city landmark and tourist destination.

Zoofest ’08 winners include: Humphrey Cogay, Karen Pareno, and Pepin Ordon, as first, second, and third place winners, respectively. They each received a Canon PIXMA printer and Canon gift certificates.

"We hope that other companies will emulate what Canon has done. We encourage other companies and private citizens to do their part in conserving this landmark," added Arteficio.

Actions need not necessarily be big to make a difference. Efforts combined add up to something significant, and that is what the zoo needs right now. Whether as individuals or as an organization, our contributions will help the Manila Zoo continue to be a place where smiles and fun times abound.
