Hong of HK grabs lead
Hong Kong wonder boy Wu Siu Hong sizzled with a six-game series of 1533 to storm to the top of the standings in the 6th Euro-Med Storm International Master’s Challenge qualifying at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl at Robinson Mall-Manila.
Wu, the current PBC Open master’s champion who is bidding for his first Euro-Med Storm Challenge title, opened up with a three-game series of 790 and followed this up with a 743 to take the top post in the fifth and final day of qualifying, surpassing the 1516 score of Hall of Famer Paeng Nepomuceno.
Ironically, both bowlers used the "Mighty Shift" that was given away by Storm for this tournament.
Women professional bowler An Hyun Lim of Korea also showed her skills by posting 740 and 776 series for a total of 1510, good enough for the second high two blocks series of the day.
KPBA’s Oh Tae Hung rolled back-to-back 729s for a 1458 six game series tosimilarly gain a quarterfinals berth.
And since Wu had already qualified for the next phase, Taiwanese Chen Hsing Chao, who had a 1424, took the third and final slot for the day in this tournament presented by Euro-Med laboratories and Storm Products and sponsored by the Philippine Airlines, official airline partner; Manila Bulletin, official media partner; and Manila Hotel, the official hotel; and supported by Bevida Distilled Drinking Water, AZO, Roto Grip, Legacy Ventures, Wave products, All in Technologies, Bowlmart Training Institute, and Lotus Garden Hotel.
Also making the quarterfinals were Singapore’s Lionel Lim (1465), KPBA’s Jeong Tae Hwa (1451), Raymond Ledesma (1439), Denmark’s Anne Lorraine Gales (1428), Thailand’s Annop Arromsaranon (1412), National Team Bowler Paulo Valdez (1411), MTBA’s Jonas Baltazar (1410), UAE’s Shaker A-Hassan (1394), Noh Dung Hyun (1384), and Jung Jong Guk (1384).
The cut off score is 1331 in which there is a tie between Singapore’s Gregory Gan and Edgar Barroga. Both bowlers will qualify. There will be a total of 49 quarterfinalist which will roll off at 2 p.m. today.
