President Arroyo is unfazed by attempts to revive a congressional inquiry on the scrapped National Broadband Network (NBN) project linking her and husband to bribery charges.
Deputy Presidential Spokesman Anthony Golez said the President remains focused on governance, particularly bringing social services to Filipinos, and would not be distracted by "malicious" efforts to drag her into a corruption anomaly.
"The President is not bothered with the attempt to maliciously revive the ZTE issue. The President is focused with her daily duties to make sure that her long term objective to bring the country to first world status," he said.
The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee earlier announced plans it would reopen the NBN probe following a new witness’ account linking the President to the corruption charges. Sen. Francis Joseph "Chiz" G. Escudero, however, warned his colleagues against reviving the NBN inquiry pending the Senate’s case before the Supreme Court (SC).
Unruffled by the NBN controversy, the President yesterday pressed ahead with officials engagements, starting with the inauguration of the Maysan barangay complex in Valenzuela City
"Congratulations for keeping the City of Valenzuela dynamic and prosperous," the President told some 200 local officials and employees during her visit of the largest barangay hall in the country.
