Food products galore at IFEX
spacer

By Zac B. Sarian

YOU have today and tomorrow to visit the International Food Exhibition (IFEX) at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City. There are more than 300 exhibitors and you will be amazed by the wide range of food products showcased by food entrepreneurs.

If you happen to pass by the booth of Chanos Chanos owned by Ramon Rodriguez, you will be happy to learn about the myriads of products processed from bangus. Aside from the many different cuts of fresh and frozen deboned bangus, there are specialty products like bangus burger, chicharon skin and heads, empanada, kikiam, longganiza, lumpiang shanghai, relleno, relleno with Chinese sausage, siomai, jumbo siopao with Chinese sausage, sisig with chicharon and torta. Bangus bottled products include bangus tinapa cheese spread, bangus tinapa cheese spread with wasabi, bangus sarsa, bangus in corn oil and bangus in tomato sauce. Look for Paolo Rodriguez who is manning the booth.

Not far from the Chanos Chanos booth is the Calabarzon booth where you will find Toti Almeda with his fresh goat’s milk. We just learned that the Almeda family which runs the Alaminos Goat Farm has gone into commercial goat dairying. They have right now 40 Saanen milkers which are producing some 70 liters of milk daily. They are expanding their dairy project and are retaining all the female kids for future breeders and milkers. At the start of their goat project a few years back, they specialized in propagating the Boer breed which is mainly for meat production. They are still maintaining their meat-type goats and are selling breeders of Boer.

There are also enterprising nun entrepreneurs who are showcasing their produce at IFEX. One is the Talleres de Nazaret based in Brgy. Kanluran, Rosario, Cavite. They are producing crispy tahong, crispy squid heads and squid rings in sachets. The coordinator is Sister Erlinda dC. Garaci, SSJ. You should taste their products, you will be glad you attended IFEX.

Yesterday, visitors had a taste of the grilled and adobo capon of Joey Rigor. He and his wife have started early this year commercial production of Solraya Sunshine chicken capons. They are also preparing for special occasions such as the Agrilink trade show, Christmas, graduation and other occasions.

Visit IFEX and see a lot more of products, technologies and ideas.
