Transport groups appealed government yesterday for a strict distribution of diesel subsidy booklets so these would go to legitimate PUVs and not to the pockets of corrupt officials.
Boy Vargas, president of the Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Altodap), thanked the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) for the planned R2 per liter subsidy of diesel to public utility vehicles but urged for a strict distribution of the subsidy booklets.
Earlier, Efren de Luna, president of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Operators (ACTO), also raised his concern over how the government will handle the granting of discounts, saying it could deny other legitimate operators from getting fuel discounts.
"Naiintindihan namin ang LTFRB sa kanilang paniniguro na ang mga lehitimong operators lamang ang makakakuha ng discount, subalit kaming lehitimong mga operators ay nag-aalala sa kakayanan ng ahensiya na maipakalat ng mabilis ang nasabing fuel coupons," De Luna said.
He said there were many instances when LTFRB failed to deliver or distribute documents, such as the fare matrix, on time and there is a huge possibility that it will happen during the distribution of the fuel coupons.
"Can the LTFRB guarantee that all legitimate operators will be given coupons on the date fuel companies start granting discounts? It will be very unfair to other legitimate operators if they will not be able to receive their fuel coupon on time," De Luna said.
