BAGUIO CITY — The Cordillera Regional Council was asked to institutionalize a budget for watershed protection and rehabilitation as one of the long-term solutions in sustaining food security in the country in the coming years.
This came as the RDC also created a quick response team in an attempt to stop the massive destruction of the region’s watersheds by unscrupulous residents to pave the way for the establishment of commercial farms for their livelihood.
The idea of creating a quick response team was approved and it should be ready to respond anytime a destruction of any watershed is reported.
The team will be composed of representatives from various agencies, particularly the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Department of Agriculture (DA), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), various local government units, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army, private sectors and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as the lead agency.
