Initially conceptualized as an organization for scholars, the MDC Laurels Society opened its doors to honor students in May 2005 and has since become one of the more active and service-oriented recognized student organizations in MDC.
The Laurels Society aims to excel in both academic, extra-curricular and leadership endeavors by tapping into each of the members’ full potential and ensuring holistic development of all its members, guided with the values of academic excellence, collective leadership and social responsibility.
Some of The Laurels Society’s successful projects are advocacy programs that give credit to the effectiveness of multimedia (e.g. "Yapak," "Corrupted," and "Silip"). Experts in the areas of multimedia and advocacy who have graced these programs include independent film director Siegfried Barros-Sanchez; documentary producer Seymour Barros-Sanchez; representatives of the Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival; and Gang Badoy of RockEd Philippines.
Another premier program is T.E.A.C.H. or The Enrichment and Alternative Classes Hub which extends free tutorial services to students having difficulty in their academics. For school year 2008-2009, volunteers (students and alumni) have expanded to include the members of the academic and non-academic community of the College who willingly volunteered their time and expertise.
The Society has likewise volunteered for RockEd Philippines’ activities. Recently, it likewise participated in the MDC Brigada Eskwela in Marcelo Marcela Elementary School in Pasay City.
