The Philippines is aiming to release a guideline in Halal food-making as Halal is seen to have an important market among Asian neighboring countries. The guidebook will encourage production and export of Halal foods and provide food processors and exporters the know-how on preparing, packing, labeling, and handling of Halal foods, according to a Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) report.
The country is also expecting certification of Halal foods from the Islamic Da’wah Council of the Philippines which is a member of the World Halal Council and of the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
Halal refers to the appropriate processing of food according to Islam and involves the preparation, slaughtering, cleaning, processing, handling, disinfecting, storing, and transporting of these foods.
"Contrary to popular belief, the manner employed n the production and preparation of Halal meat is one of the most humane and hygienic forms of meat preparation," said BAR’s Christmas B. de Guzman.
