Filipino performers Julianne and Miguel Escueta recorded an acoustic version of the Billboard hit track "This Is Me," off the soundtrack for the Original Disney Channel Movie called "Camp Rock."
Their version certainly brings local viewers closer to the rocking teen movie which premieres tonight at 7:30 p.m.
This project marked the first time two MCA Music discoveries came together for a recording session which took place recently at the popular professional recording venue Pink Noise in Quezon City. The original foreign recording of the song features Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers fame and Demi Lovato, both lead stars of "Camp Rock" which follows the story of teen girl Mitchie Torres (Lovato), an aspiring musician, and pop rock superstar Shane Gray (Jonas) whose paths cross at a camp for music enthusiasts.
"It’s a privilege for me to be given this opportunity to sing a good song from a movie done by Disney Channel. That I’m doing it with Miguel means that I’m sharing the precious spot with a contemporary who shares my adventures and triumphs as a musician," said Julianne in a short interview during the recording of the song.
The Manila Bulletin had the chance to observe Miguel while recording. From the recording booth, he expressed his excitement for recording the Filipino version of "This Is Me" which were already done in French ("Etre Moi"), Polish ("Oto ja"), and Italian ("Sonio Mo").
Miguel recently released a repackaged version of his debut CD "I Am M.E" while OPM soul child Julianne is busy recording new songs she has written.
Included in the Camp Rock OST are Jonas Brothers’ "Play My Music" and "I Gotta Find You," "Who Will I Be" which Lovato sings at the film’s opening, and hip-hop tracks "Too Cool," "Start The Party," and "Hasta La Vista."
Locally it is now available in Odyssey, Astrovision, Music One and Fully Booked stores, along with its DVD offering.
The Disney film notably stars American boy band Jonas Brothers which has already released three albums to date. Their presence alone is a major attraction for the movie boasting lovable music and dance numbers with easy, inspiring storylines.
Fil-Am teener Anna Maria Perez de Taglé, known for her portrayal of Ashley Dewitt on "Hannah Montana" also stars as Ella. She is the granddaugther of Filipina singing socialite Sylvia La Torre.
