CAMP PANACAN, Davao City — At least six communist terrorists were reportedly killed while undetermined number of other rebels were believed seriously wounded during a running gunbattle on Saturday between pursuing government combat troops and fleeing New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a far-flung village of Laak town, Compostela Valley (ComVal) province.

Maj. Armand Rico, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman, said one government soldier identified as Pfc. Semilla was slightly wounded and immediately evacuated to nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Government combat troops have recovered five backpacks with personal belongings and firing wires, he said.

Rico added massive hot pursuit operation against the running rebels in Laak area is going on without let up.

Earlier, combat maneuvering troops of Army’s 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3rd SFB) overran the main encampment of the NPA Sub-Regional Guerrilla Unit (SRGU) of the CPP-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) in Cebuley area, Barangay Kapatagan, Laak town of that same province.

Maj. Roylan M. Orquia, commander of 3rd SFB currently led his men in capturing the camp where the SRGU guerilla-training area is located.
