Jenny fires sizzling 69
Jennifer Rosales opened and ended her round with a birdie to post her finest start in years, a 3-under 69, in the opening round of the of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the first major of the LPGA season, Thursday in Rancho Mirage.
Rosales, the country’s only LPGA campaigner, missed the cut in her first two tournaments, but showed little of those mishaps by starting her round with two birdies.
She gunned down another birdie on the fifth before making a bogey on the next hole. She recovered by nailing her fourth birdie on the par-5 11th hole and then had another bogey on the 13th. But she finished her round with a flourish with a birdie on the 18th.
She is three strokes behind first round leader Feng Shanshan of China who fired a 6-under-par 66.
South Korean Hall-of-Famer Pak Se-Ri was tied for second with American Michelle Wie on five-under 67.
South Korean Amy Yang and teenaged amateur Angel Yin of the United States shared fourth place on four-under 68, while South Korean Shin Ji-Yai and American Cristie Kerr tied Rosales .
World No. 1 and defending champion Park In-Bee, who launched her remarkable run of three straight major titles in 2013 with victory in this event, struggled to a two-over 74 that left her tied for 46th.
