10-HOUR BROWNOUT

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced that a 10-hour power outage will affect several towns in the provinces of Cagayan and Apayao on Wednesday, August 6. NGCP’s North Luzon Public Affairs Officer Lilibeth P. Gaydowen said that the power outage will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will affect the towns of Lallo, Gattaran, Aparri, Lasam, Allacapan, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Sta. Teresita, Gonzaga, Sta. Ana, Abulug, Pamplona, Ballesteros, Sanchez Mira, Claveria, Sto. Nino, and Sta. Praxedes in Cagayan province, and Pudtol, Luna, Flora, Sta. Marcela, and Calanasan in Apayao. (Freddie Lazaro)

BATAAN SUSPENDS CLASSES IN ALL LEVELS

Balanga City – Classes in all levels of public and private schools in the province of Bataan have been suspended yesterday due to the threat of monsoon rains enhanced by typhoon “Jose.” The provincial government issued this advisory in its bid to prevent casualties, as certain parts of the province were battered by light to moderate with occasional heavy rains.  Some parts of the province were also engulfed by darkness due to intermittent power interruptions. SUSPECT FALLS IN ILOCOS

Camp Juan, Ilocos Norte – Police operatives nabbed one of the most wanted persons in the province during an entrapment operation in Barangay Santa Cruz Norte, Badoc, Ilocos Norte, last Saturday. Badoc police chief Senior Inspector Fritz Tabula identified the suspect as Orlando Palafox Jr. a resident of Barangay Santa Cruz Norte. Tabula said that the suspect has a standing warrant of arrest issued in 2011 for the case of attempted murder. Tabula said the suspect is also allegedly involved with a gun-for-hire syndicate, carnapping, robbery, and illegal drugs. (Freddie Lazaro)

FATHER AND SONINCIDENT

Candon City, Ilocos Sur – A 68-year-old man died Saturday due to severe wounds caused by his own son’s beating by using a bamboo pole with nails  in their house in Barangay Barrientos, Luna, La Union. Police identified the victim as Benjamin Ayala, and his son, Wilson, 34. Investigation disclosed that Benjamin was repeatedly beaten by his son during a heated argument over a chicken, which Wilson caught inside their kitchen. Authorities said a follow-up probe on the incident is ongoing. (Freddie Lazaro)

PAGASA ISSUES EARLY WARNING

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) station here advised residents to prepare for the onslaught of heavy rains during the early part of this Wednesday due to the enhanced southwest monsoon caused by typhoon “Jose.” Cynthia Iglesia, chief of the PAGASA-Laoag City sub-station, said residents need to be vigilant because the monsoon rains may trigger flash floods, and landslides in some parts of the province. She also warned fishermen to avoid venturing into the open sea. (Freddie Lazaro)
