TOURISM CODE

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — The Provincial Board has approved the Tourism Code, the blueprint that will govern, regulate and enhance tourism development and programs, as well as operations and services, in the province. The legislative body unanimously approved the ordinance was co-sponsored by 7th District Board Member Irene de Padua-Bencito and 1st District Board Member Ryan Enriquez. Vice Governor Ramon “Jolo” Revilla III said the ordinance is in keeping with Cavite’s tourism development, one of the priorities of the local government in line with its goal for progress. 2 ISABELA TOWNS CLAIMING IFUGAO LAND

SAN MATEO, Isabela — Local government officials in two western towns of Isabela are pushing to legitimate their territorial claims on some parts of neighboring Alfonso Lista town in the province of Ifugao. The local officials of San Mateo and Ramon have asked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to intervene on their part to gain control of a total of 6,000 hectares of land in Alfonso Lista that they are claiming. A cadastral survey is underway and its results will determine the next move of the two claimant-local government units. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

CAFGUS DEPLOYED

BAGAC, Bataan — More Civilian Auxiliary Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) members have been deployed to various parts of Central and Northern Luzon provinces, the army confirmed yesterday. The move comes after another 236 trainees graduated from the rigid CAFGU course at the army’s 70th Infantry (CAFGU) Battalion (70IB) in Laur, Nueva Ecija. The new batch of CAFGUs will focus more on protecting the country’s environment and help the military in peace-keeping efforts, said Lt. Col. Gilmar Galicia, 10IB commander. (Mar T. Supnad)

7 MEN WITH GUNS

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union — Joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) arrested seven men in three houses in San Fabian, Pangasinan, after allegedly yielding firearms, ammunition and military uniforms. Senior Superintendent Francisco Esguerra, CIDG Region 1 chief, identified the suspects as Aquilino Ramos, Rommel Garces, Carlito Valerio Jr., Ronnie Guillermo, Dennis Arquilos, Manny Picardal, and Alex Aragon, all of Barangay Nibaliw, San Fabian. The raids on their houses were covered by search warrants. (Erwin G. Beleo)

ROB DUO SLAIN IN CALUMPIT

CALUMPIT, Bulacan — Two suspected members of a robbery gang were killed in a shootout with police in Barangay Sucol this town the other night. Police said that prior to the encounter, the still unidentified slain suspects allegedly robbed held up Lea Cruz Pati, of Barangay Pungo here. The duo rode in tandem on a motorcycle and snatched her bag at gunpoint, Pati told probers. Responding police chased the suspects but were fired upon by the duo, prompting lawmen to return fire. 2 ROAD DEATHS

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — Two people were killed in separate vehicular accidents along provincial roads in this city and Nueva Vizcaya last Wednesday, a belated police report said yesterday. Police said Anacleto Calimaran, 20, of this city, was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a truck driven by one Dante Manuel along the provincial road in Barangay Linao East, here. In the other accident, 54-year-old Julie Pineda died when she was accidentally hit by a motorcycle driven by one Dareen Cacayan, 20, along the provincial road in Barangay Mungia, Dupax Del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya.
