 St. Joseph’s Feast

Baras, Rizal — The streets of this once sleepy town will once again be lively today as the townfolk dance in the streets as part of today’s celebration of the feast of Saint Joseph, husband of Mary, the local patron saint. The parish office of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, announced that a Holy Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Lily Buenaventura, public information officer, said the fiesta will be highlighted by an afternoon street dancing with each of the 10 villages showcasing their own version of the country’s famous dance festivals such as “Sinulog”, “Ati-Atihan,” “Dinagyang,” and others. Occ. Mindoro Clash

Camp G. Nakar, Lucena City — The Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) reported yesterday foiling an attack by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels after soldiers intercepted the armed guerrillas in Sitio Agsigang, Barangay Mananao, Paluan, Occidental Mindoro. Lt. Gen. Caesar Ronnie F. Ordoyo, Solcom chief, said troopers encountered the merged groups of the Sangay sa Platoon (SPN), codenamed “Plaguer” and the Yam-Ay Guerrilla Front of the NPA’s Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC), codenamed “Caloy.” After a 10-minute encounter, the rebels retreated and left behind an assortment of rebel effects of intelligence value. 451 Projects

San Fernando City, La Union — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) four District Engineering Offices (DEOs) in Pangasinan have successfully completed 451 infrastructure projects. Reports submitted by the DPWH four DEOs of Pangasinan to DPWH Regional Director Melanio C. Briosos yesterday showed that among those projects completed were the improvement, rehabilitation and upgrading of national roads and bridges, school buildings and basic educational facilities, water and sanitation including health facilities, disaster related rehabilitation and short term infrastructure projects, water supplies/retarding basins /collectors and sewages. These also included the Lingayen Baywalk Project initiated by Pangasinan 2nd District Representative Leopoldo N. Bataoil. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)


2 Wanted Men Fall

Camp Tolentino, Bataan — Two top wanted persons were arrested over the weekend as the police launched a series of manhunt operations in Bataan and Tarlac. The Regional Public Safety Battalion 3 nabbed Fernando Hipolito Ledesma, listed as the No. 1 most wanted man in Tarlac City and primary suspect in the murder of a barangay captain in Barangay San Luis in 2010. Separately arrested was Army Sergeant Elmer Talamaya in a manhunt waged in Fort Bonifacio Taguig City. Talamaya is wanted in Bataan for a murder case before the court of Judge Angelito Balderama.
