TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — The provincial government has cited the performance and accomplishments of Caviteño professional basketball player Ranidel Rozal de Ocampo, particularly his stellar role in the much-celebrated victory of Gilas Pilipinas team in the recent FIBA-Asia Championship game in Manila. The 31-year-old, 6’5” De Ocampo hails from Julugan, Tanza, a municipality in Cavite’s sixth district. The three-time Philippine national basketball team member and an MVP (Most Valuable Player) awardee is known as a high-scoring forward, rebounder and defensive specialist. Governor Jonvic Remulla, Vice Governor Ramon Jolo Revilla III, the Sangguniang Panglalawigan members called De Ocampo a “pride of Cavite.” De Ocampo was honored during the Monday flag-raising ceremony at the capitol ground here. SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), in cooperation with the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Region I, will hold its 2nd La Union Tourism Summit on Sept. 20, 2013 at Hotel Ariana, Barangay Paringao, Bauang, La Union. This is in line with the celebration of National Tourism Week and World Tourism Day this month of September. La Union Tourism Summit seeks to highlight the importance of tourism and its social, political, and economic values in the province. LEGAZPI CITY (PNA) — Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda was reelected chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) of Bicol for a third term during the full council meeting yesterday morning at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) conference room in Barangay Rawis, this city. Salceda represents the government sector. Jose Medina Jr. and Benigno Elevado, civil society sector representatives, were elected co-chairs. The Albay governor and the other RDC officials will serve for a period of three years. The RDC is the highest policy-making body in the region and serves as the counterpart of the NEDA Board at the sub-national level.
CANDABA, Pampanga (PNA) — Some 4,093 indigent residents here yesterday received cash grants from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under its Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). The beneficiaries were identified through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) carried out by the national government. The Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) and representatives from the DSWD regional office facilitated the distribution of the cash transfer to identified recipients.
BAGUIO CITY (PNA) — City councilors here yesterday planted 20 Benguet pine trees within the city hall grounds in order to help in the extensive reforestration of this mountain resort 250 km north of Manila which has been determined by authorities to further regain its prime tourism industry once more greeneries are established. City Councilor Fred Bagbagen, president of the Baguio chapter of the Philippines League of Councilors, said the tree seedlings planted were duly marked in order to require the planter to exert all efforts to care for the tree until it matures.
