Tagum City – In line with the celebration of Family Week every last of week of September, the provincial government of Davao del Norte through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWDO) will be conducting the Huwarang Pamilyang Pilipino Award today. According to PSWDO department head Arlene Semblante, the Provincial Huwarang Pilipino Award Committee had drawn one out of the only four contenders from the municipalities of Braulio E. Dujali, Kapalong, and New Corella, and from this city. The Huwarang Pamilyang Pilipino Award serves as recognition and not a competition because families are already winners as role models. STA. CRUZ, Davao del Sur – Local authorities here leveled up their preparations for the 129th founding anniversary of this municipality from October 3 to 5. With a dream to become a competitive city in the future, this town sets new aspirations in relation to its anniversary celebration this year. Like the previous celebrations, this year will also be special since various activities will be undertaken to make it more meaningful, local officials said. GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The Philippine Army is set to conduct the aptitude test here for male and female applicants who wish to become officers and enlisted personnel of the military. Colonel Victor Tan, Joint Task Force GenSan commander, said applicants should pass the Armed Forces of Philippines (AFP) Aptitude Battery Test before they can be admitted to become officers and enlisted personnel of the AFP. The examination is scheduled on October 16 at the Holy Trinity College here, while registration for applicants is ongoing at the Joint Task Force GenSan headquarters in Barangay Bula, this city. KIDAPAWAN CITY – Authorities in Central Mindanao are readying charges against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) that led the attacks on Monday in Midsayap, North Cotabato. Col. Dickson Hermoso, head of the 6th Division Public Affairs Office, said they already coordinated with the Midsayap Police in helping them gather documents and pieces of evidence related to the charges to be filed against the BIFF. The armed men under commanders DM and Abbas Kudanding, both field commanders of Moro rebel leader Ustadz Ameril Umbra Kato, were responsible for beheading farmer Ricarte Junio, and the shooting to death of Erwin Viluan. COTABATO CITY (PNA) – A P15-million modern Halal slaughterhouse is set to rise this year in Barangay Mother Tamontaka, this city. Halal in Arabic means “permissible.” In terms of food, it means food permissible according to Islamic law. “This way, livestock should be slaughtered the Halal way,” Mayor Japal Guiani Jr. said during the facility’s groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday. The abattoir will be built on a 3.7-hectare lot procured by the city government. Guiani said P5-million of the total P15-million fund for the facility came from Seal of Good Housekeeping award extended by the Department of the Interior and Local Government to this city last year.
