Hydropower Plant

Davao City – The Region-10 office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-10) granted an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) to the Hedcor Bukidnon, Inc. for the establishment of the 68.8-megawatt (MW) Manolo Fortich Hydropower Project in the province. The project of the renewable power generating company gained its compliance after satisfying the requirements, and after substantive review of the project by the Environment Management Bureau (EMB), an agency attached of the DENR. According to Gregorio Jabonillo, vice president for business development of Hedcor, the progress brings closer to the implementation of our green field project. (Cherry Mae Palicte)

 

Cateel Earthquake

DAVAO CITY – The town of Cateel in Davao Oriental was hit by a magnitude 3.4 earthquake Friday at around 12:40 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. The quake’s epicenter was traced some five kilometers southeast of Cateel town, with a depth of 138 kilometers, and tectonic in origin. No damage was reported by authorities as of press time. Permit Monitoring

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Joint Inspection Team (JIT) of this city will start monitoring the compliance of business permits and licensing requirements on April 22. The inspections will be conducted Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting with newly-registered businesses operating in the city’s urban villages. The JIT was created by City Mayor Oscar Moreno, in compliance with Joint Memorandum Circular No. 01, Series of 2010, issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Trade and Industry. “This is nothing new,” the mayor said, adding that the joint circular provides guidelines in the implementation of standards in processing business permits and licenses in all cities and municipalities. Health Inquiry

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Cagayan de Oro Representatives Rufus Rodriguez (2nd District), and Maximo Rodriguez Jr. (Abante Mindanao) have passed a resolution, directing the House Committee on Health to conduct an inquiry on the steps being taken by the Department of Health (DOH) to address the health concerns brought about by the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus or MERS-CoV. The MERS-CoV is positively-sensed, single-stranded RNA novel species of the genus Betacoronavirus, and was first reported on September, 2012, by Egyptian biologist Dr. Ali Mohamed Zaki in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Identified as the sixth new type of coronavirus, the World Health Organization has urged all member-states to be on guard against the MERS-CoV. (Camcer Ordoñez Imam)

 

League Meeting

BULUAN, Maguindanao – Local officials will spearhead here another national event, hosting this time the nation’s municipal and city deputy chief executives belonging to the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines (VMLP) led by Manila Vice Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso. Buluan Vice Mayor Jhazzer Mangudadatu, VMLP political affairs focal person, said “all is set” for the league’s elected officers and key members to hold here starting Monday their regular board meeting. He said that a VMLP team recently conducted an ocular inspection here and found the municipal gymnasium in this town, and prospected billeting quarters “appropriate” for the convergence.
