KIDAPAWAN CITY – The Department of Agriculture in Central Mindanao has denied accusations that the construction of the water impounding project in a hinterland town in North Cotabato province has displaced thousands of farmers in the area. In a statement, DA-12 regional director Amalia Jayag-Datukan said there is no truth to the accusations hurled against them by the New Peoples’ Army (NPA) that the Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) in Barangay Ladayon in Arakan, North Cotabato has caused dislocation to thousands of vegetable farmers. In fact, Datukan said the project has encouraged migration of farmers and their families as the DA has provided them access to markets and planting materials for their crops, including aswete, corn, cacao, and other cash crops. BUTUAN CITY – The Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) financing and insurance project, a program collaboration that offers the innovative risk transfer mechanism developed under the project, went into high gear in four towns of Agusan del Norte. The integrated CCA financing package consisting of three models – coop, rural bank, and local government unit (LGU)-bundled with non-financial services – is now available to farming households for crop production and alternative livelihood/enterprises in the municipalities of Remedios Trinidad Romualdez (RTR), Buenavista, Jabonga and Las Nieves, all in Agusan del Norte province. SIBAGAT, Agusan del Sur – At least 1,777 far-flung villagers received free medical services, mass feeding, and assorted food supplies during the humanitarian and social services operation conducted on Friday by the Police Community Relations Division of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13). The PRO 13’s Medical Dental Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) extended free medical checkup to 278 villagers, dental checkup to 69 patients, distribution of dental kits to 100 village folks and free haircut to 80 village people here. TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte – To further strengthen the delivery of health services to its constituents, the local government here through the City Health Office (CHO) recently jumpstarted its “War Versus Worms” advocacy. As an opening salvo of the program, more than a thousand elementary school pupils in three villages here received on Thursday oral dose of medicine to combat schistosomiasis, a chronic illness known to damage internal organs and impair growth and cognitive development of children. The move is in line with the priorities of Mayor Allan Rellon to ensure the health of the constituents in Tagum through the implementation of basic health programs and services. (Alexander D. TUNGAWAN, Zamboanga Sibugay– A convergence of government agencies backed by the private sectors, non-government agencies and the military conducted a three-day livelihood training and civic action activity to a least 5,000 people coming from nine depressed barangays in this town. Mayor Randy Climaco said the activities culminated on Wednesday with at least 5,000 indigents availing themselves of the various medical and dental services including livelihood trainings. (Nonoy E.
