Digos Stray Bullet Victim Survives

Davao City — Authorities have confirmed that the lone stray bullet victim in Digos City, Davao del Sur had survived and is now in stable condition at the hospital. Superintendent Cesario Dukiling, Operations Chief of the Digos City Police, said Jaed Stephan Bacomo, 2, is out of danger but needs continued treatment until he is fully-recovered. It will be recalled that Bacomo was with his family celebrating the New Year on Mabini Superhighway in Digos City, when suddenly, he was bleeding in the left hand. His father rushed him to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he was hit by a stray bullet. (Alexander D. Lopez and Cherry Mae D. Palicte)

Crime Registrars

Butuan City – The Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) announced yesterday that they started hiring at least 325 non-uniformed personnel as crime registrars to assist police work throughout the country. The PNP has 7,439 vacant positions for non-uniformed personnel intended to be utilized as crime registrars. In Caraga Region 13, the regional office of the PNP based at Camp Rafael C. Rodriguez, Barangay Libertad has start accepting applicants. Road Accident

Butuan City — Eight people were seriously injured when a cargo truck crashed on New Year’s Day along the District Rosas Road in Barangay Tagcatong, Carmen, Agusan del Norte, police reported yesterday. The Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO) reported that the accident happened at 3:30 p.m. while the truck was traveling at high-speed while engaging a sharp turn. The injured were Esmer Moralla Mondano, 38; Trixy Jane Moralla Mondano, 10; Idem Antig Mondano, 22; JeboyTrusoTayum,18; Ariel Antig Mondano, 20; Gino Mondano; Saturnino A. Mondano, 42; and a certain Jason, all of Barangay Poblacion, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur. All of them are now confined at the Nasipit Emergency Hospital in Nasipit town. (Mike U. Crismundo)

 Holiday Injuries

Butuan City — The Center for Heath Development-Caraga Region 13 reported yesterday that there were 31 cases of injuries related with the holidays from December 21, 2012 to January 2, 2014 as reported by the various sentinel hospitals in Caraga region. According to Region Xlll DOH Regional Director Minerva P. Molon this is 15 percent higher compared with the same period in the previous Yuletide season. Among the 31 cases of firecrackers related injuries, 29 (94%) of these cases were active meaning, they were the ones who lighted the firecrackers, Director Molon said. “Majority of the injuries are blasting lacerations and abrasions which were treated at the Emergency Room or Out Patient Department and were sent home except for 2 which were referred to a higher facility,” said Department of Health (DOH) Region 13 Information Officer Sunshine Alipayo. CdO Pawnshop Robbers Identified

Cagayan De Oro City — The police have identified the suspects in the robbery of a pawnshop, here, during the holidays, as members of the “Acetylene Gang.” Inspector Ariel Pontillas, chief of the Theft and Robbery Section, here, said images taken from the CCTV of the motel where the group checked-in, matched the images of four persons who posted bail for a similar case in Caraga region. Pontillas identified them as Edmon Paliag, Arnel Bagudang, Rico Patunggay, Ardis Colon, with aliases “George” and “Pablo.” He said the same they were also involved in robbery cases in others parts of Mindanao and in Benguet.  (Camcer Ordoñez Imam)
