PRICE MONITORING

Cagayan De Oro City – Mayor Oscar S. Moreno has convened the City Price Coordinating Council (CPCC), and inducted its new members recently. The CPCC will coordinate the production, distribution, and marketing programs of various agencies to stabilize price of prime and basic commodities at reasonable levels. It will also investigate and recommend actions to correct unwarranted price increases and supply shortages, including suspected price manipulation and control activities in the city. The CPCC will likewise gather information to assess the supply, distribution, and price situation of any basic necessity or prime commodity. (Camcer Ordoñez Imam)

WORLD SURFING EVENT

Butuan City – Preparations for the world surfing competition for men already started in General Luna, Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte. The committees of the municipal and provincial governments, Department of Tourism, and Philippine Surfing Federation have been mobilized for the 20th World Men’s Surfing Cup on September 25. Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas also mobilized provincial officials, and the nine town mayors for the programs at the sideline of the world men’s surfing competition. At least 70 surfers from the European countries, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, United States, and other Asian countries are expected to participate. (Mike Crismundo)

MAGSAYSAY FEST

Magsaysay, Davao del Sur – To spearhead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the activities of the 7th Kialegnon Festival, Mayor Arthur Davin signed Executive Order 07, creating the Executive Committee (Execom) tasked to run the weeklong celebration of the festival from September 22 to 28. The main duty of the Execom is to organize all activities, and encourage greater private sector participation in the festival events. Festival activities include Lumbang Kialegnon, Hiniusang Pagdayeg, Agri-Trade Fair, Tribal Culture Showcase, Traditional Pinoy Games, Hudyaka, Tingog sa Kialeg, Chorale Ensemble, Talentadong Kialegnon, Hiyas sa Kialeg, Istorya ni Datu Kialeg, and Kialegnon Beat Competition. EDUCATION PROGRAM

Surigao City – At least 1,402 college students benefited from the scholarship program of Surigao del Norte 1st District Rep. Francisco T. Matugas. Commission on Higher Education Region-13 Administrative Officer Julius Jamero said these scholars are studying at the various colleges and universities in the Caraga Region, Mindanao, the Visayas, and Luzon. Meanwhile, the provincial government also strengthened and allotted additional budget for the implementation of health, education, environment, agriculture, aquaculture, livelihood, and tourism programs, and for the spiritual renewal social services and security. PEACE PROJECTS

Loreto, Agusan del Sur – At least three towns in the Caraga Region received P10.8 million for the implementation of Peace and Development Projects (PDP). The Region-13 office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-13) said this annual grant goes to the 36 remote villages of the municipalities of Loreto and Sta. Josefa in Agusan del Sur, and Carmen in Agusan del Norte. The PDP includes the Bigasan/Bagsakan center, mini ice plant, noodles manufacturing facility, fish and meat processing, rice/corn mills, mobile rice mills, solar dryer, and pump boat and other fishing projects, and farm production.
