MALUNGON, Sarangani – Officials of the Department of Education cited the unwavering support of the local government here in strengthening the educational programs intended for those marginalized sector in impoverished local communities. Sarangani schools division superintendent Isagani del Cruz lauded local officials led by Mayor Reynaldo Constantino for providing the needed support facilities and resources to local public school teachers assigned in the area. “We are thankful to the local government officials who are very supportive of all initiatives undertaken by DepEd in the municipality of Malungon,” Dela Cruz said. KIDAPAWAN CITY – The Army’s 602nd Brigade in North Cotabato needs stronger ties with the local government units (LGUs) in the province to combat security threats, especially against lawless groups. Brigadier General Ademar Tomaro, commanding officer of the 602nd Brigade, made such an appeal during the recent Cotabato Provincial Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting. Tomaro told local chief executives the Army needs an improved system of exchange of information between them and the LGUs and their attached agencies as this would help promote security in the locality. During the CPOC meeting presided over by Cotabato Governor Lala Talino-Mendoza, Tomaro reported the recent harassment in towns of Midsayap, Tulunan, and M’lang allegedly perpetrated by the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – As the Christmas season approaches and music and carols are already on the air, the region’s premier and capital port city of Cagayan de Oro is set to launch the 2013 Carol Competition or locally known as “Bangga sa Daygon”. The city government through the Committee on Tourism of the city’s Sannguniang Panglungsod (SP) announced that “Bangga sa Daygon” is open to all barangays and schools in this “Friendship City” of the south. SP’s Tourism Committee Chair Candy Darimbang announced that the launching of the “Bangga sa Daygon” will commence before the end of this month. DAVAO CITY – Forty-eight Intelligence operatives under Task Force (TF) Davao Class 02-2013 graduated from the eight-day intelligence training course on Monday, October 7, here. The 48 graduates will be civilian intelligence operatives that functioned as the eyes and ears of the law enforcement group in the city. TF Davao commander Casiano Monilla told Manila Bulletin that the new graduates would be deployed in areas such as malls, churches, markets and other populated areas that could be a possible target of the terrorists. “The only weapon that they would have right now is only a cellphone, they will report all the untoward incidences to the nearest security forces and they will be the one to at least stop cases of terrorism in the city,” Monilla explained.
