Most Filipinos welcome 2014 with hope
December 30, 2013 (updated)
Despite the calamities that Filipinos went through in 2013, most of them are welcoming the New Year with hope rather than fear, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed.
Filipinos hopeful for a better year jumped to 94 percent this year, or 2 percent more than the same period in 2012. The highest level of optimism (95%) for the coming of a new year was recorded in 2001 and 2011, according to SWS.
In Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, Filipinos generally look forward to 2014 with hope, the survey showed. A small number (9%) of residents from the National Capital Region (NCR), however, appear to be wary of 2014 for reasons not clearly identified.
The latest SWS survey was conducted from December 11 to 16 as part of the firm’s Fourth Quarter 2013 survey. Of the projected 98.7 million Filipinos today, according to worldpopulationreview.com, the SWS survey only covered 1,550 respondents.
