Napoles lawyer claims she prays ‘2,000 rosaries every day’
The woman who is accused of hatching the intricate P10-billion “pork barrel” scam in her head prays, according to her lawyer, “2,000 rosaries from her heart every day.”
Napoles’ lead counsel, lawyer Stephen David, told reporters his client has been praying 2,000 rosaries even before she found herself the center of the PDAF mess.
It was not clear how Napoles could do that – given that a recitation of one rosary, minus the litanies, would mean, by conservative estimate, 12 minutes, with 1,440 minutes in one day without hitting the bed.
“She’s praying 2,000 rosaries every day. Even then kahit nung wala pa siyang kaso. That’s why until now, every day naman siya nagmimisa eh. (Even when there was no case against her she was like that. That’s why until now, she goes to mass every day),” he told reporters after the bail bearing.
“Yes, 2,000 rosaries a day and several…yung straight from the heart,” David added.
According to the lawyer, Napoles shouldered the education of 200 priests as well as the construction of many churches.
The rosary in her possession, according to the lawyer, was once the personal property of Pope John Paul II, who was recently elevated to sainthood.
After Napoles’ bail hearing Friday at the Sandiganbayan Third Division which is hearing the plunder raps against her, the alleged pork barrel queen proudly showed to media the marble-like rosary that she claimed was given to her by the late pontiff.
“Nung buhay pa siya (When he was still alive),” Napoles answered, when asked by a reporter when she received the item from the Saint Pope.
Napoles is being held at the high-security BJMP building in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
