Napoles prays 2,000 rosaries a day
The woman who is accused of hatching the P10-billion “pork barrel” scam apparently prays 2,000 rosaries everyday.
After her bail hearing at the Sandiganbayan Third Division on Friday, alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles proudly showed to media the marble-like rosary that she claimed was given to her by the late Pope Saint John Paul II.
“Nung buhay pa siya [When he was still alive],” Napoles answered when asked when she received the precious item from the Pope.
“May seal yan ni Pope [It has the Pope’s seal],” she added.
Napoles’ counsel Stephen David meanwhile said his client has been praying 2,000 rosaries a day even before the pork barrel issue.
“She’s praying 2,000 rosaries every day. Even then kahit nung wala pa siyang kaso. That’s why until now, every day naman siya nagmimisa eh [Even when she had no case against her, she is like that. That’s why until now, she goes to mass everyday],” he told reporters.
“Yes, 2,000 rosaries a day and several…yung straight from the heart,” David said.
The lawyer also said that Napoles shouldered the education of 200 priests and financed the construction of many churches.
“Ganun siya kadikit sa simbahan. Maraming simbahan siya na pinatayo. Nabisita ko yung isa kung saan nandun mismo pangalan nila na sila nagpatayo [That’s how close she is to the Church. She built many churches. I visited one and her name was there],” he said.
David also said that Napoles would sometimes let him borrow the rosary.
“Lagi niyang binibida sakin, ‘Attorney, gusto mo to? Pero I can’t give this to you kasi this a personal rosary of Saint John Paul II [She always tells me, ‘Do you want this attorney? But I can’t give this to you because this is a personal rosary of Saint John Paul II],” David narrated.
He said that Napoles received the rosary “during one of the Pope’s visit to the country.”
Napoles who is facing plunder and graft charges is detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
