Devotees of Saint Clare of Assisi (Santa Clara de Asis), the patron saint of childless couples and of good weather, will offer special prayers and novenas in her honor today in celebration of her feast day. At the San Pascual Baylon Parish (Obando Church) in Obando, Bulacan, where the Italian saint is venerated as one of the town’s three patron saints. Born in Assisi, Italy in 1194, she led the Poor Clares for 40 years, living a life of poverty and self-denial. They depended on alms while they ministered to the sick and did works of mercy. She died in 1253 and was canonized on Sept. 26, 1255 by Pope Alexander IV. (Christina I. Hermoso)


An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday warned the public against transact with “fixers” in some Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) in cities and municipalities offering to help voters register for the May 2016 polls in exchange for money. “There are reports of people approaching those who are in line to register and also with offers to facilitate the release of (voter) IDs,” said Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez. “It’s a flat out scam on the public.
