THE QUEENSHIP OF MARY FEAST

Manila Archbishop Emeritus Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales will celebrate a feast mass at 5 p.m. today at the Mary the Queen Parish in Greenhills, San Juan City in commemoration of the Feast of the Queenship of Mary, a corollary of the Marian Dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was observed last Aug. 15. Eucharistic celebrations, novenas, and processions will be held in several Catholic churches and Marian shrines across the country today in observance of the feast. Marian devotees will lead the recitation of the holy rosary, including the Litany of the Blessed Mother, which proclaims her queenship in twelve instances. In his encyclical letter Ad Caeli Reginam (To the Queen of Heaven), Pope Pius XII, who instituted the feast on Oct. 11, 1954 said, “The Blessed Mother is the Queen of Heaven and Earth because she is the Mother of God and because of her preeminent perfection and her intercessory power. Mary is queen by grace, by divine relationship, by right of conquest, and by singular election.” (Christina I. Hermoso)

JINGGOY APPROVES OF JARDELEZA

Detained Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada yesterday said President Aquino’s appointment of former Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza as Supreme Court associate justice was “a good choice.” Estrada said Jardeleza deserved the post more than Commission on Audit (COA) Chairperson Grace Pulido Tan who ‘’allowed herself and the commission to be used for partisan politics and exhibited questionable integrity as head of an independent constitutional body.” In lauding Jardeleza’s appointment, Estrada said, “I trust that with his competence and expertise Associate Justice Jardeleza will uphold the independence of the Supreme Court and defend the sanctity of the Constitution. Moreover, I believe that he will work with the esteemed leadership of the Judiciary to bring meaningful reforms to our lethargic court systems to deliver without delay justice for every Filipino.”  (Mario B.
