Knowing about your work-related benefits is now easier for more employees after the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) released its first Handbook on Workers’ Statutory Monetary Benefits in Filipino. The 73-page manual is part of DOLE’s initiative to boost its information dissemination program to reduce the number of labor-related abuses in the country. “This handbook is an integral part of the DOLE’s effort to keep the public well-informed about the latest laws and regulations on labor standards, the foremost aim of which is to promote better appreciation of such standards, improve working conditions, and develop a culture of voluntary compliance, chiefly among employers and workers,” Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said. MB CARTOONIST WINS AWARD
Manila Bulletin cartoonist Norman B. Isaac was one of the recipients of the 6th Ani ng Dangal Awards (Harvest of Honors) given by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) under the Office of the President. The award recognizes artists who have earned international prizes and accolades during the past year. The annual event is part of the Philippine Arts Festival 2014, NCCA’s grand event in celebration of the National Arts Month every February. Isaac, an awardee in the Visual Arts category, is a consistent winner in local and international cartoon competitions.
the latest of which is the Gold Prize he won in the Stamp Design Contest in South Korea. He is a contributing artist and writer for Animal Scene and also the creator of the comic strip Norman’s Island which appears daily in the Manila Bulletin.
