The jackpot prize of the Grand Lotto 6/55 is nearing the P200-million mark after no bettor correctly guessed the winning combination in Saturday night’s draw. Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas III, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) acting chairman, the jackpot prize for today’s Grand Lotto draw is estimated at P189 million.  Twenty-three bettors almost hit the P178,876,580 jackpot prize of the Saturday draw, correctly guessing five of the six winning numbers of 37-41-29-34-52-16. Each bettor would win P121,970 as second prize. The PCSO said 1,239 bettors missed the jackpot by just two numbers and would win for P1,810 each. Bettors have a one-in-28.9-million chance of winning the jackpot prize of the Grand Lotto 6/55 which is played every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.  (JC Bello Ruiz)

A former head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said only a few Filipino couples renew their wedding vows in church. “Many don’t renew anymore because they think it’s costly particularly the reception part when they have to feed their visitors,” said Retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz, head of the CBCP National Appellate Matrimonial Tribunal, in an interview. Those who renew their marriage vows are usually couples celebrating their silver or golden wedding anniversary, Cruz said. Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes, chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life, said while most couples celebrate the day they were married, only a few can actually afford to have a big celebration.
