Walk For Life

Pro-life and family groups will hold a symbolic walk around Luneta in Manila today as an expression of solidarity and support for its pro-life initiatives and to ask the Supreme Court to defeat the Reproductive Health law. Dubbed “A Million Prayers…A Walk for Life,” the event will start with a holy mass to be led by Lipa Archbishop Ramon C. Arguelles at 7 a.m. at the Nuestra Senora de Guia Parish (Ermita) Church. Participants are requested to wear red and to bring rosaries and portable radios, organizations banner, and holy images of Jesus Mary and the saints. They are expected to converge at the Museo Pambata along Roxas Boulevard at 8 a.m. and will then proceed to Luneta, where they intend to walk around the park seven times while praying the holy rosary. Good Word

While saying the Aquino administration will leave it to the Judicial and Bar Council to send President Aquino the short-list of nominations for the replacement of Supreme Court Associate Justice Roberto Abad who retires on May 22, a Palace official nevertheless put in a good word or two for Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza and Commission on Audit (COA) chairperson Grace Pulido. “We’ve worked more directly with Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza — he’s the lawyer for the Executive branch. He is very qualified, his years in practice as a private practitioner and now as a Solicitor General and previously as Deputy Ombudsman (for Luzon), his records speak for itself.” said Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.  (Madel Sabater-Namit)


SPES Application

Over a hundred of student applicants trooped to the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office in Pasig City yesterday to apply for the annual Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES). The last day for application is today. The SPES is an annual summer employment program that encourages students to make their school vacation productive by working and earning extra money which they can use during regular school days. Offered by DepEd and other government agencies, SPES aims to also immerse the youth in government and hone their sense of leadership and public service. (Ina Hernando-Malipot)


Driver Claims P6M

Predictably, a driver in Iloilo City said he plans to put up his own transportation business after claiming yesterday the minimum guaranteed jackpot of P6 million for the Lotto 6/42 draw of March 15, 2014.   The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said a 44-year-old company driver hit the jackpot with one bet that matched the winning numbers – 04-12-19-22-25-26 for Lotto 6/42 draw. PCSO General Manager Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II said they “are happy at PCSO for being able again to help our fellow Filipinos’ dream realize to change their lives for the better.” (Edd K. Usman)


Sandiganbayan Holiday

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno approved the cancellation of work at the Sandiganbayan offices in Quezon City on March 28. Sereno also approved the request of Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo M. Cabotaje-Tang to keep a skeletal workforce on that day. In her letter to the Chief Justice, Presiding Justice Tang said:  “The Iglesia ni Cristo will hold an activity called Lingap Pamamahayag on March 28, 2014, Friday, from 12:01 in the morning until 6:00 in the afternoon. For said activity, it will use the eastbound portion of Commonwealth Avenue from Sandiganbayan to Litex. “Considering the expected heavy traffic on said date, may we respectfully request that work be suspended in the Sandiganbayan, with skeletal workforce to be maintained, on March 28, 2014.” (Rey G.
