Bear hug

Named after US president Theodore Roosevelt, the very first stuffed teddy bear toy was born in 1902. Out on a bad hunting day, the President’s staff tied a wild bear around a tree but Roosevelt didn’t have the heart to kill it. News of the incident spread and soon, someone came up with the idea for a cute, little stuffed bear named “Teddy’s Bear.”
It was an obvious hit, with kids and women lining up to buy the cuddly toy. Even the President joined in, as he used it as his mascot during his re-election campaign.
As anyone who has been reduced to mush by a range of cuddly bears, from the Care bears to Winnie The Pooh, can attest, teddies are still major hot. But what used to be just a stuffed toy has evolved. The teddy bear is everywhere—shirts, bags, notebooks, key chain, bag charms… the possibilities are endless!
Designer and entrepreneur Lawrence Antaran is one of those who love thinking out of the box. His hand-sewn and one-of-a-kind, 3.5-inch stuffed teddies are the designer’s latest creations, and made from fabrics such as satin and lace. Some even come in bejeweled form or with little bows. Originally worn as necklaces (with a 36-inch chain), these lovely teddies can also be tied around your favorite bag.
Why bears? “It has traditionally been used to convey or express warmth and joy,” says Antaran. “We give it to loved ones, to children, to those who need cheering up. So by using bears, I hope those who wear them will add a happy, youthful flair to their wear. And there’ll be more soon. Not just bears.”
Wear any of these exclusive bears, and you’re sure to spice up any outfit—and they make great conversation pieces, too! Why not get a bear each and name it after your girlfriend/boyfriend? It’s an endearing way to express your affection.
Affordably-priced, from P300 to P350, these teddies will surely get adopted fast. Visit http://nationtm.multiply.com and get your very own bear!
