Sunshine, Katrina discover friendship in ‘Sundo’

It's a common occurence that actors in horror flicks sometimes experience the paranormal, so they say, during the filming of their horror movies. But for “Sundo's” Katrina Halili and Sunshine Dizon, it was laughter they discovered all throughout the making of the Tofel Lee thriller.
“The whole time wala kaming ginawa kundi tumawa lang and to think horror ang movie na ginagawa namin. There was never a dull moment,” recalled Sunshine, chuckling.
“Ang pinagkaiba nito sa 'Shake, Rattle and Roll' hindi ako ang killer. I'm one of the victims plus super nag-enjoy po ako dito kasi naiba ang role ko dito which is comedy... kikay ako and super gusto ko si Robin dito,” described Katrina who plays an aspiring actress in “Sundo.”
Aside from the enjoyment, Katrina and Sunshine also rediscovered friendship and has become since then buddies. Their friendship was jumpstarted when Sunshine responded to the comic antics of Katrina when the cast of “Sundo” was inside a van waiting for instructions from their director. Nobody was talking and the ambiance was of tension described the two actresses.
“I made some comments kasi tahimik sa van tapos tawa ng tawa si Ate Shine. Tapos nagtawan na lahat. I even danced for Ate Shine,” giggled Katrina. “Since wala akong friend na artista sabi ko sa kanya if she can be my friend.”
“Si Katrina yung ice breaker. Hindi pa kasi magkakakilala ng husto ang lahat but after that, naging close ang group... when I first saw her, she was so quiet and she has her own little world. She has her own thing going on, tapos nung nandun na okay na,” shared Shine.
“Sundo,” produced by GMA Films and Viva Films, is about the plight of Romano (Robin Padilla) who’s on his way back to her sister Isabel (Rhian Ramos) in Manila. Carrying some passengers with him on his trip - Louella (Sunshine Dizon), Kristina (Katrina Halili), Lumen (Glydel Mercado), Eric (Hero Angeles) and Baste (Mark Bautista), they managed to escape death by averting a fatal vehicular accident. Unfortunately their luck is the start of Romano's horrifying death as he sees the “grim reaper” or “kamatayan” go after them!
So is “Sundo” about the fear of death?
“Actually I don’t think it is about the fear of death because of the fact na ang sumusundo sa iyo is kamatayan. Si Robin ang nakakakita sa sundo namin. Kailangang panuorin ng buo para ma-appreciate ang buong movie. Yung totality niya as a horror movie makikita mo sa pagpanuod sa buong film lalo na sa visuals niya. Katulad ng pagkain ang mahirap sa horror film dapat complete ingredients siya or else hindi tatayo,” commented Sunshine.
How was it then working director Toffel Lee and action star Robin Padilla?
“Toffel is very nice and a workaholic. You just can't say no because if you're tired he is more tired than you,” quipped Katrina.
“He is sobrang sweet, hindi nagagalit and mild-mannered. Always smiling. Hindi mo siya mahihindian kasi sobrang bait... while si Robin makes you feel like a woman because he is super gentleman,” said Sunshine.
“Sundo”opens on March 18 in theaters nationwide, with a premiere night on March 17 at SM Megamall.
