Mai Castro performs at Bykes @ Lancaster

Come in and hear the music that starts your feet moving and echos the secret beat of your heart. Every Friday, Bykes @ Lancaster pulsates with this music genre as Mai Castro and her band perform. Mai doesn’t just sing it, she feels and lives it, and that she says is the essence of Latin music.
Latin music sort of hypnotizes you, and feeling its sound, you really end up dancing. Mai enthuses, “You can’t belt out Latin music without the emotion required of them. You must emote and that takes a lot of heart and spontaneity.”

Mai was first a dancer (way back during her school days), then a model having won the best in long gown award in Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant a few summers ago, before becoming a singer. This combination makes her presence on stage, hypnotizing, indeed!

Friday nights at Bykes is for everyone who loves Latin music and for those who love dancing salsa, samba, chachacha, rumba, mambo, bachata, merengue, la cumbia and the like, as well.
Bykes is at the mezzanine floor of Lancaster Hotel, 622 Shaw Blvd, Mandaluyong City. Bykes opens at 2 p.m. for those who like afternoon dancing, Monday to Saturday. Flinstones plays on Wednesday nights, and Behind Closed Doors on Thursday and Saturday nights. Monday is Milonga nights for lovers of Argentine tango.

‘Baler’ out on video

“Baler,” the biggest and most awarded movie in last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, finally makes its way from the big screen to your TV screen as it becomes available on video beginning March 18.
A tale of an overwhelming love between a young Filipina (Anne Curtis) and a Spanish-Filipino soldier (Jericho Rosales), “Baler” is set in the backdrop of 1898 wartime action between a 57-man Rifle Battalion of the Spanish military and the Filipino forces, more popularly known as the Seige of Baler.
Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales team up for the first time as two star-crossed lovers in the movie. It is Viva Films’ official entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival and swept several major awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Actress, the first-ever-acting honor given to Anne.

While “Baler” is a story of conflict, betrayal, suffering, self-preservation, selfishness, obstinacy, and self-interest, it is also a story of heroism, courage, love of freedom, patriotism, endurance, chivalry, humanity and above all, it also tells about a noble story of love in time of war.

The film is also led by a powerhouse cast featuring Phillip Salvador, Michael de Mesa, Leo Martinez, Joel Torre, Carlo Aquino, Nikki Bacolod, Mark Bautista, Ryan Eigenmann, Baron Geisler, Bernard Palanca, Allen Dizon, DJ Durano, Arvee Quizon and Jao Mapa. The theme song “Ngayon, Bukas at Kailanman,” which celebrates the power of an enduring love, is sung by Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo.

Experience the grandeur, mystery and beauty of the town Baler on video. It will be available on VCD at R275.00, on Regular DVD at R600.00, and on Limited Edition DVD at R1,000.00.
