Villages to protect ‘mojons’
Cebu City -- Thirty-one barangays in Central Visayas have recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the “Adopt-A-Mojon” Program this year to assist the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the periodic inventory and recovery of geodetic control points and other reference points.
The mojons serve as the prime physical evidence of land boundaries, used to demarcate land for land use planning and development, land policy and land use inventory including land titling on natural resources information, and aids in minimizing and settling disputes of uncertain boundaries between parcels of lands.
The “Adopt-a-Mojon” program enjoins local government units (LGUs) to assist the DENR in the conduct of periodic inventory and recovery of geodetic control points and other reference points, which will be marked by mojons.
The LGUs will also help the National Mapping Resource and Information Authority by providing reports on the physical condition of the mojons, which they are also expected to protect.
Of the 31 barangays that signed the MOAs, 16 were from the Province of Negros Oriental, including Barangays Bagacay, Pulantubig, Batinguel, Looc, Piapi, Poblacion 8, Motong, Taclobo, Tinago, Daro, Calindagan, Poblacion 6, Poblacion 7, and Poblacion 4.
