Wedding bells are starting to ring as opposition Sen. Mar Roxas and news anchor Korina Sanchez publicly announced their engagement Saturday.

The couple made the celebrated announcement during ABS-CBN Channel 2’s “Wowowee” noontime show hosted by Willie Revillame.

Roxas and Sanchez, whose high-profile relationship has spurred much public speculation, appeared during a segment in the program wherein the senator co-hosted in the awarding of 10 pedicabs to beneficiaries of his livelihood program.

Roxas, Liberal Party president and a potential presidential candidate in the May 2010 elections, became emotional when he proposed to Sanchez.

The audience cheered when Sanchez jokingly echoed the proposal to Roxas.

When Revillame asked Roxas on the probability of allowing Sanchez to “run the country” should he win the presidency, Roxas assured that it would not happen.

“Well, Willie, unang-una mahal na mahal ko si Korina hinding hindi ko siya ipagpapalit kahit kanino or kung saan man, pero ako ang magdedesisyon. At ang aking mga pangarap tulad ng pangarap mo, tulad ng pangarap nating lahat na magkaroon naman tayo ng bansa na magbibigay ng pagkakataon sa ating pangkaraniwang Pilipino, pantay-pantay,” Roxas said.

Earlier, the couple was pressed to answer queries regarding their wedding plans, but both remained mum on the issue.

Roxas’ campaign strategist had earlier admitted that Roxas and Sanchez’ relationship could boost the senator’s presidential bid.
