Geisler still in hot water

Just when many thought that the ruckus involving young actor Baron Geisler and Kapuso star Yasmein Kurdi had been laid to rest—this after GMA 7 aired an interview of Kurdi’s saying she is not going to pursue an earlier charge filed against the actor—recent reports had the actress’ lawyer Ferdinand Topacio claiming they will “never withdraw the complaint.”

Topacio said the interview misquoted the actress.

Topacio also accused Kurdi’s home network, GMA, of forcing his client to make amends with Geisler.

Topacio said he notified GMA 7's Vice President for Television Marivin Arayata on the matter through a letter. He said that he reiterated their request that the network remove scenes from the SRO where the two actors can be seen together. This, he said, was part of an earlier appeal, which he claimed, the network ignored.

GMA 7 stood by the report made by their veteran correspondent Lhar Santiago. The network giant even aired the taped interview to dispute Topacio’s allegation.

The network denied exerting any pressure on the actress to withdraw the harassment case she filed against her SRO Cinemaserye Presents Suspetsa co-star. The Kapuso network also strongly disagrees with the allegations that they have approved to the requested “removal of certain scenes”.

The statement, written by the network’s VP for Legal Affairs Attorney Dick Perez, was aired through a talk show last weekend.

It read in part: “We take strong exception to the allegation Atty. Topacio made in an interview with Inquirer.net that undue pressure was being exerted by certain persons connected with GMA to reconcile Ms. Kurdi and Mr. Geisler. This allegation is simply untrue and is rather reckless. He made this accusation based alone on what he himself consider, as stated in his letter to GMA, as rumors.”

It added: “We have been transparent with this issue from the start and we have made it clear to all that we will respect the right of Ms. Kurdi to address this issue in any manner she feels necessary and appropriate. Contrary to what Atty. Topacio claimed, GMA never encouraged any face-to-face meeting between the parties, nor did we ask (or force) Ms. Kurdi to talk to Mr. Geisler's lawyer.”

In the statement, Perez also noted that GMA never discussed with Topacio about rewriting the script, removing scenes or having someone substitute for Geisler in the series.

"What was discussed was that the remaining scenes of Ms. Kurdi and Mr. Geisler together shall be shot separately without the two of them being together personally.”

Perez then asked Topacio to refrain from making baseless accusations and from spreading rumors against GMA and its officers, "otherwise we will be constrained to file such appropriate actions against you in order to protect our interests".

Still, Topacio was unyielding.

“What we agreed upon is that of not allowing scenes that would force my client to be with the accused. But the scenes are still there,” Topacio said.

Kurdi filed charges of acts of lasciviousness and unjust vexation on May 25 after a taping of the said SRO series. She claimed that Geisler sexually assaulted her during a taping for the show, Thursday, May 21.

Last year, a similar case was filed against Geisler by Patricia Martinez, daughter of actor William Martinez and Yayo Aguila.
