Gabriela supports Barrameda family
The Gabriela Women’s Party has pledged support to the family of actress Rochelle Barrameda in seeking justice for the brutal murder of her sister, Ruby Rose Barrameda-Jimenez.
Rep. Liza Maza, the group’s representative in Congress, personally conveyed Gabriela’s promise and condolences to the Barrameda family when she and her partymates visited the wake of Ruby Rose.
The remains of Ruby Rose were found inside a metal box at Navotas offshore last Wednesday, more than two years since she was reported missing.
“The brutal killing of Ruby Rose is an extreme case of violence against women. We condemn in the strongest terms this inhumane act. Murderers of Ruby Rose should be punished in no time,” Maza said.
The police have already filed murder charges against seven suspects in the killing of Ruby Rose, including her father-in-law Manuel Jimenez II and the latter’s son, Lope.
But the lawyer for the Jimenezes reportedly claimed some people could have taken advantage of the marital problems of Ruby Rose and husband, Manuel III, to get back at their business interests.
According to reports, the Jimenezes are engaged in several businesses, including fishing and agricultural companies. They also own a farmland and a poultry farm in Cavite, as well as a number of gasoline stations.
Maza lamented that despite the existence of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004, women continue to face grave abuses and violations of their rights.
The lawmaker was one of the authors of the law.
