Murder and omerta
Unsolved killings, victims of salvaging, the so-called “chop-chop” murders, etc. provide the ready models for more grisly crimes of violence.
Poor copy
In the case of Ruby Rose the determined killers probably copied a US model – the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa, the powerful labor leader in the US. He played a key role in forging the first national freight-hauling agreement and made the Teamsters the largest labor union in the US.
In 1975 Hoffa disappeared from the restaurant near Detroit and was believed to have been murdered by underworld figures. His body was never found leading law enforcers to theorize it was molded in concrete and buried in the Atlantic.
Government as promoter
Some high-profile killings and abductions in RP have been attributed to the people’s protectors – the AFP and PNP.
In the 1930s a US judicial statesman said, “when the government descends to the level of common criminals we can expect terrible consequences …”
Few grisly cases
There are few grisly murders to mention that occurred within Metro Manila. One dental student in the 1960s carefully carved his girlfriend into small pieces for “safekeeping.” He was convicted of murder.
Three or four NFA guards, in the 1960s at Paco, were axed to death by robbers who carted away some P3 M.
Fast arrest
Chief Quintos, the first PNP general, solved it in a matter of days. He led in the arrest of the killers at Sta. Mesa train station with two other detectives armed only with their service revolvers, Colt Cal. .38, Police Positive. Arrest of one or two killers these days is carried out by an army of operatives with long pieces of automatic combat rifles that could kill bystanders/passersby.
Perfect sleuthing
We give all the credit to the PNP in recovering the best evidence in the murder of Ruby Rose whose body, probably like Hoffa’s, was molded in steel and concrete and dumped on Manila Bay after sunset. Police operatives started working on the case after Ruby Rose disappeared in March 2007; she also lost custody over her two kids, who were given by a judge to the husband and family, minus the wife.
Last week the PNP hit paydirt: One conscience-stricken participant led them to the steel/concrete coffin at the bottom of Manila Bay, which they recovered before sunset this time.
Motives?
Roby Rose was murdered for a number of probable causes: 1) to prevent her from winning custody of her babies on appeal to judges with a deeper appreciation of the Civil Code and the Family Code 2) full knowledge of probable illegal activities within her husband’s family and 3) a kind of triangle not found in geometry books.
All of the above, combined, were low motives and lower then robbery/profit in the ax murder case at NFA Paco or pushing drugs in vigilante killings.
Planning murder
It’s hard to imagine wasting time to buy a new drum, steel box, bags of cement, sand, etc. to make a cozy water-proof coffin for Ruby Rose, and hiring the coffin makers to get a small boat, load the coffin and select the proper burial ground at sea.
Planning, executing and erasing this kind of murder cannot be the work of two or three minds or even 12 minds of low IQ.
There are suggestions it can be done easily/quickly if the “job” has become routine, like making flower pots of clay and concrete or bending small steel bars.
Full solution
If the murder of Ruby Rose has not been solved or does not lead to the punishment of all the partakers, the master criminals especially, there are theories it can ripen into a kind of science or profession or industry that can earn profits like companies or corporations.
The investigation, trial and appeals in this case will take or last years, maybe 10 or 15 years to get a final judgment.
Again, we leave it to the PNP as proper law enforcers to get solid evidence for conviction as they did in retrieving the best evidence – the dead Ruby Rose from the bottom of the sea. Good prosecutors and judges can return a verdict in two to four years. (Comments are welcome at roming@pefianco.com)
