RP team vs. US visitors
Game Tomorrow (The Arena, San Juan)
6 p.m. — Powerade-RP vs Athletes in Action
Powerade-Team Pilipinas is seeking some form of divine assistance as it prepares for the FIBA-Asia World Championship qualifier in Tianjin, China next month.
Athletes in Action, an evangelical Christian sports ministry that tours the world, puts Yeng Guiao’s national team to the test in an exhibition game Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
“Coming from Division I schools in the US NCAA, the AIA players should provide really stiff competition,” said Guiao. “I believe we’ll have our hands full against them.”
The Philippine Basketball Association is opening the game to the public to allow basketball fans to watch the Nationals before they leave for the William Jones Cup tournament.
Former PBA player Al Solis arranged for the arrival of Athletes in Action and set up the exhibition with Powerade-RP which finally was introduced to Japeth Aguilar last Monday.
Aguilar, the 6-foot-9 son of former Northern Consolidated center, had his first practice session with the RP team, joining James Yap, Kerby Raymundo, Sonny Thoss, Willie Miller, and Cyrus Baguio in halfcourt 3-on-3 offensive sets.
