Viloria defense vs Argentine in Cebu?
Brian Viloria may make the first defense of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-flyweight crown on August 29 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu.
The Hawaii-born Viloria, whose parents are from Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, is being penciled to stake the 108-lb crown against Argentine warhorse Luis Alberto Lazarte.
Ranked seventh by the IBF, Lazarte holds a 43-9-1 win-loss-draw record with one no-contest and 18 wins by knockout.
Having fought mostly in Argentina, Lazarte remains a threat even though he is already 38 years old.
Viloria, who had won the IBF crown with a one-punch kayo of Mexican Ulises Solis last April 19 at the Araneta Coliseum, sports a 25-2 slate with one no contest and 15 victories inside the distance.
Wakee Salud, one of the country’s leading promoters and a key adviser of Manny Pacquiao, will handle the local end of the promotion.
Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. and Solar Sports are joining hands once again in the Viloria headliner which will take place two weeks after a huge event at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas featuring Nonito Donaire and Bernabe Concepcion on Aug. 15.
Donaire will relinquish his IBF fly title to challenge for the interim World Boxing Association super-fly throne versus Rafael Concepcion of Panama, while Concepcion faces defending champion Steven Luevano of the US for the World Boxing Organization feather belt.
